Have you been wanting to try out the Google Android phones but you are locked into a contract with your carrier? Do you use a phone running Windows Mobile operating system such as the HTC Touch, AT&T Tilt or Tilt 2? Then this is for you.
Several groups of developers have been working on  versions of the Android operating system that will run on WinMo phones. To start you will need to have a memory card that is compatible with you phone that has at lease 100mb of free space, the more space the better because you will want to download apps from the App Market.  If your phone is one of the following: Blackstone, Diamond, Diamond 500, Fuze, Raphael, Raphael 800, Rhodium, Tilt 2, Topaz or Touch Pro then here is a link to the information on the Android build that they use.

If your phone is not listed above then you will need to look thru the Download and forum sections at the following links to get the correct install build for you phone.

You should be able to find the installs needed to setup almost all of the WinMo phones released within the past 2 years.  Keep in mind that these versions of Android are still under development so not all of the functions are fully supported on all phones. Each version will have a feature list showing what features are working and what is not. As with most under development software these are available with not guarantees but since they run from the memory card if you don’t like the update just reset your phone and go back to Windows Mobile. The great thing about this project is it will allow you to tryout the Android phone operating system without signing a new contract and updating your phone only to maybe decide you don’t like Android.  Some of the great software available for the Android operating system include “Tethering software” to allow your phone to become a modem for your laptop.  We have been running the version on our Verizon Touch Pro phones for the past 2 weeks and it works great.
