Security breach at Zappos.com, 24 Millions customer records accessed

If you are a customer of the web shopping site WWW.ZAPPOS.COM then you need to change your password. Late Sunday night the online retailer posted a notice stating that they had a security breach and that the account information for 24 million customers had been accessed but that the account data did not include credit card information. Zappos has stated that the passwords accessed on their site were encrypted but did not give any more information about how. The company is working with law enforcement to investigate the breach. They are requiring all returning customers to change their passwords. Read more

New Facebook Phishing scam found

A new Facebook Phishing scan was detected by the Kaspersky security today. This new threat is being used to not only compromise your login credentials but to also try and steal your credit card information by posing as a notice from Facebook security. The message states that your account may have been hacked and that they need to verify your login information to prevent your account from being closed. The cyber criminals are using the reasoning that you “want to keep you account open” so you will follow the link. (Based on past Facebook scam success, they would be correct in assuming this.) New Facebook malware threat – Ramnit

Security research company Seculert has been tracking a new variant of the Ramnit worm. The original Ramnit worm has been around for over a year and was designed to steal FTP credentials and cookies stored on your PC. The second version discovered in August of last year was set on obtaining your financial information such as bank logins and account number. Symantec stated in a PDF file last July that oproximatly 17.3% of machine infections could be traced to the Ramnit worm. Over the period of September to December 2011 they tracked the worm on over 800,000 machines. The worm has now taken on a new persona, it now is out to steal your Facebook credentials. Read more

Apple Siri has a big security hole

Apple’s new Iphone 4S has a serious security problem and it’s name is Siri. Sophos security posted today on their security blog that they have found a major security hole in the new Siri app that will allow anyone to send emails, text messages and even place calls when the Iphone is still passcode locked. Alert: Avast A/V seems to break Windows validation

It appears that the Avast! V6 is breaking the Microsoft Windows validation. The issues seems to affect more users running Windows Vista SP1 but it is not limited to these users.  Microsoft forums have been seeing more users experiencing the ‘non-genuine’ notifications with a code of Licensing Data–>C:\Windows\system32\slmgr.vbs(291, 5) (null): 0xC004D401.
