How to fix HP Laserjet 2100 vertical lines on print
We have a law firm customer that prints a large number of envelopes with their Laserjet 2100 printers and after months of printing they start having image problems. This is a common problem with several models of the HP Laserjet printers including the LJ2100, LJ2200 and the LJ2300. These models us a flexible Teflon roller in the fuser assembly and the envelopes scratch the roller, after repeated printing the roller will get damaged enough to start showing print defects on the output pages. This article shows how to replace the fuser assembly in the printer to restore clear print images.
Here is a sample of the output showing the print defect, the vertical line or lines will be about 2″ from one or both sides.
The first step is to remove the right side panel. To do this open the top of the printer and press the release tab, shown circled to yellow below.
Now turn the printer around to the back side and lower the door to reveal the 2 screws. Remove the screws marked below and remove the panel. It may take a bit of pulling to get it free.

With the back cover removed you will be able to see the fuser assembly. To remove it you will need to remove the 3 screws circled below.
Now gently pull the fuser assembly out from the printer, it will be connected by 2 plugs that will now need to be dis-connected. They are shown here.
Here is the fuser assembly removed from the printer.
Turn the fuser around and look at the brown roller that runs the length of the unit. You should see the damage as shown here.
TO correct the problem you will need to either purchase a new fuser assembly part # RG5-4132 such as this one from Amazon.com: HP Laserjet 2100 Printer Fuser Kit RG5-4132
or you can rebuild your fuser for about half the cost using a rebuilt kit such as this one: Laserjet 2100 Fuser Rebuild kit
These printers are great units that will last a long time with regular maintenance such as this. If you have questions about this printer problem or any other you may have just ask in our printer forum and we will help you get printing again.
