Repairing the Acer AL2016W monitor
The Acer AL2016W LCD monitor uses the ILP-001 power supply also known by part # 79045050. In the following repair guide we will be rebuilding this power supply board. If you monitor is having power or display issues then this should get you back going again. A faulty power supply board can cause the monitor to be slow to show a picture, just have a flashing power light, no power at all or like this unit only show a picture for about 2 seconds then black screen. To make the repairs you will need to following tools: Soldering iron and solder, De-solder wick or de-soldering iron, Phillips screwdriver, small flat blade straight screwdriver. The parts list for the repair are as follows:
Qty 5 470uf 25v capacitors
Qty 1 470uf 10v capacitor
Qty 2 1000uf 25v capacitors
Qty 3 47uf 25v capacitors
To start the dis-assembly you will need to remove the back of the monitor. On the back, first remove the stand cover. Next remove the screws to remove the stand then the 2 additional screws as shown below.
With the stand removed you will need to pop the back off by inserting the small flat blade screwdriver between the 2 halves and pop the latches apart around the 4 sides and remove the front of the case. To remove the back you will first need to remove the 3 screws as shown below.
Now you will need to use the flat blade screwdriver again to release the latches round the sides. The latches are shown below.
Gently lift the metal shield up so you can unplug the signal cable from the LCD panel. There are release latches on both ends of the connection that you will need to press in to release.
Remove the screws as shown on both the power supply and the back light inverter board.
You will need to unplug the power supply cable from the CPU board. The plug has a latch on it that you need to squeeze to release.
The capacitors that need to be replaced are as follows:
C817, C818, C827 470uf 25v
C816, C815 1000uf 25v
C832 470uf 10v
C833, C820, C807 47uf 25v
and the last 2 470uf 25v caps are on the back light inverter board. See locations circled below.
This is not guaranteed to solve all problems but in most cases this is the issue with this model.
