Repairing the Samsung 920N / 920NW monitors
In this repair guide we will show you how to dis-assemble the Samsung 920N /920NW monitors and repair a power supply board that has failed. Both the 920N and 920NW use the same power supply board, one has the audio amplifier and the other does not but the power supply is the same. The board is part number ILPI-036 also shown as 79097140 rev A has the audio and rev B does not. If you have one of these monitors with no display, a flashing power light, a wavy picture or it takes a while to show a picture when you first turn it on then this guide will show you how to repair your monitor. If you would prefer to watch a video on this repair it is available HERE.
To complete the repair you will need the following tools:
Phillips screwdriver
Soldering iron
Solder
Desolder braid or desoldering iron
and the capacitors that will need to be changed.
First you will need to remove the power cable and display cable along with the stand. Now lay the monitor down face up and grip the front bezel with both hands and lift it up while slightly twisting it. The plastic latches will pop loose when this happens do the same thing on all four side and then the corners should release. Do not remove the front panel yet, it is still connected to the electronics with a small cable.
Turn the unit over and remove the back case panel and set it to the side. With the cover off you now will need to remove the cover over the backlight connections as seen circled here:

Remove this cover.
Now you can see the backlight plugs. Unplug all four connections. The small plug has a release clip that needs to be squeezed to release it.

Unplug all four connections.
Next you need to disconnect the signal cable that runs from the control board to the LCD panel as shown circled here. If you hold the two end clips and gently pull it should release and come right off the panel.
Now you can unplug the front panel cable. The cable will unplug and the LCD panel can be set to the side until you are finished with the power supply repair.

Front panel cable
Here is the complete electronics assembly after it has been removed from the monitor. Remove the 4 screws shown circled and uplug the power cable going to the control board so that you can remove the power supply board from the chassis.

Remove screws to power supply.
Now we have the power supply board removed and ready to be rebuilt. The capacitors that need to be replaced are shown circled here. If you have rev A of the board you will have parts in the lower right corner of the board, this is the audio amp for the speakers, replacement of these are not needed.

qty(2) 470uf 25v capacitors

Be sure to use good quality low ESR, high ripple current, high temp capacitors or you can damage the power supply board. More information on getting the correct capacitors can be found on our capacitor page.

My issue is the same as one I saw on the 940 monitor section.
when I first plug it in and turn it on it stays on for about 30 seconds and goes black, the power button stays lit, if I turn it off and back on it goes black in 3 seconds, again and again
Tell me what you're thinking...
